Full Term!!!
Week 37-end: Watermelon
I must admit, I have never been so uncomfortable in my entire life... Heck ya, it feels like a freaking watermelon is in my tummy! Ugh!
At week 37, my pregnancy is considered full term!!! Yeah! This means baby Maddox is highly likely to thrive after birth. Maddox spends these last weeks in preparation for the outside world… meaning careful refinement of the blink, suck, inhale and exhale. Meconium, which we (or the nurses) will find in the first diaper, is accumulating in the intestines. Advice to Me (Mom)- "If you worry about giving birth, consider what it’s like for the little one. During the journey out of your womb, baby will produce more stress hormones than any other time in life." Awwweee! That makes me sad... :( Poor little guy....

Sooner than Later!!!
I had the first of my weekly appts today! Just some interesting information. I am 75% effaced and 2 cm dilated. SEE PICTURE ABOVE FOR YOUR HEALTH SCIENCE LESSON! "Effacement is the process by which the cervix prepares for delivery. After the baby has engaged in the pelvis, it gradually drops closer to the cervix; the cervix gradually softens, shortens and becomes thinner. You may hear phrases like "ripens," or "cervical thinning" which refer to effacement. Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your health care provider may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner. Dilation is the process of the cervix opening in preparation for childbirth. Dilation is measured in centimeters or, less accurately, in “fingers” during an internal (manual) pelvic exam. “Fully dilated” means you're at 10 centimeters and are ready to give birth." This means that I could go into labor, well, today or 2 weeks from now… Dr. S says he would like little Maddox to “bake” for at least 10 more days if he can in order to fully develop his lungs. Until then I am supposed to take it EASY… Not quite sure how much easier I can take it. Anyway, I WILL take it easy for the baby's sake, of course. I DID stop by Blimpies on the way home, just in case it would be my last meal!
I also had my Group B streptococcus test. Look that one up if you want to... 15-40% of healthy women test positive for Group B Strep. It just means that if one is a carrier, they will be given
antibiotics through an IV during your delivery to prevent the baby from becoming ill.
I (or Matt) will keep you all updated and in the loop!!!

Matt-Boobs & Belly!
Isn't my husband the best sport ever? He was the first one out of 6 guys to try on the 30 lb "empathy belly" at our childbirth class this weekend. This suit was designed to press on the bladder, make it harder to breathe, and also shows what great choices we have with maternity clothing (ugh!). What a guy... At first he said, "This suit is just like wearing a hunting backpack." Let me tell you, I almost slapped him! I mean, at least a backpack you can take off!!!! He DID go on to admit that it would be hard to wear for 40 weeks, hard to sleep in, etc... :) Ya think!?!?! Anyway, we had fun, learned a lot, and met a bunch of soon-to-be parents.
Not much longer! Less than a month if I make it to the due date. I am feeling okay. I feel like a huge whale though. I think I may have mentioned that.... I don't sleep well at night, but I figure my body is preparing me for what's to come. I think Maddox has dropped a lot. My stomach is literally in between my thighs when I sit down. Not pretty. I am constantly getting shooting pains in my pelvis. I will be walking and then BAM! I look as if I have been hit in the crotch. Yikes! My Braxton Hicks (practice contractions)contractions are more frequent and I am paranoid about my water breaking in public. Matt, on the other hand, is paranoid if it breaking on the leather seats in our car.... Yes, he has already put towels in the car-just in case... :)
Still working on the nursery. I will post pics soon. Just putting on some final touches... Have a great week everyone!

A Purpose...
A Dog's Purpose, (from a 6-year-old)
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.' Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone you care about is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently. Be always grateful for each new day.

Going Private!!!

I have decided to make our blog private. So many weird things happen on the Internet and with a baby on the way, I figured it was better to be safe. By doing this it will only allow invited readers to our blog. You will have to log in before you can read it-which I know is a pain (I am sorry!). I feel much more safe with this decision though. If you would like continue keeping up with us and our new family, please send me your email address. I will add you to our invited list of readers. I will wait a week or so before I make the big change. Thank you so much for understanding... :)

Seriously. Don't Hate Me Because I'm Organized!
(above) Yes, this is only half of them... But! I do not consider myself a shoe person....
Crib Bedding... CHECK!
No, this is not our nursery, but it is our crib bedding! I am so excited! I just bought it today at Babies R Us... It is a graphic mix (swirls, polka dots, & stripes) of white and chocolate brown. This whole line, by Amy Coe, is absolutely fabulous. Baby, but not too baby... The sock monkey theme has been a bit difficult (and expensive!), so we are just going to accent the chocolate brown and white with red-including the sock monkey stuff. Much more to come!!! Stay tuned!

Happy (belated) Birthday, Kirst!
Back in Boise-AGAIN.
Well, we thought our road trips we coming to a close after Sun Valley. Nope! Ross and Dannielle had a second wedding reception planned in Idaho Falls this past weekend. Originally, we were not going to make the party (due to the fact that I am 8+ months prego and we haven't been home-consistently-all summer). But, reality kicked in and I realized that I couldn't miss any part of my little bro's wedding and a 4 hour trip was really not a lot to complain about. They organized it very well and we all had a great time. I am so glad we decided to go! Now, we are in Boise and I am staying close to home until Maddox arrives!!! I say I because Matt is going on a fishing trip next week up in Canada. Over the next month or so we have SOOooOOOoo MUCH to keep us more than busy (all wonderful things of course!)... My baby shower is in Sept, Karen's (Matt's Mom) Birthday is in Sept, our childbirth classes start next month, I have doc's appts every two weeks and then every week starting mid-Sept, we also have the nursery to finish and a whole lot of preparing to do for our new arrival... I have a feeling the next 6 weeks is going to go by REAL fast! We did get our crib and changing table/dresser. Matt set them up last week. One more thing to cross of THE LIST! Much more to come....

Pregnancy Brain....
My friend, Katrina, just sent me the best email. It is totally ME in a nutshell (pregnant or not, but for now I will blame it on the baby!)!!! Thought I would share. Okay, I was on my way to do something... Got side-tracked by her email... Now what? I guess I will go to bed... :)
Do you have A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
It’s called multi-tasking in your younger years…
DO YOU KNOW THE SYMPTOMS.....PLEASE READ!
Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. This is how it manifests:I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left.. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house ! to my de sk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water. I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.At the end of the day:the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counterthe flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book,I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Project Nursery...
Well, we (Matt) have finished painting the nursery! We ordered the crib and changing table/dresser combo on Friday! We decided to go with chocolate brown furniture crib because Babies R Us didn't have the black one we originally wanted-why they still display it, I have no idea... We are both in the nesting phase. Organizing, cleaning, purging junk-you name it. Still more shopping to do! Have I mentioned that I have the MOST patient and motivated husband in the whole wide world?!?!
Things are progressing along very well! Maddox is an acrobat in my tummy and loves to punch my bladder... I have another Dr.'s appt on Wednesday (going every two weeks now). We leave for Portland this week for my little brother's wedding! Wow. I still can't believe he is getting married! I just can't let go... ;) Matt and I are going on a "babymoon" after the wedding to the Oregon coast. We are so excited! However, I am a little nervous about the long car ride...
A couple exciting weeks ahead! More pictures and stories to come...
