Just wanted to give you all an exciting update……
I had the first of my weekly appts today! Just some interesting information. I am 75% effaced and 2 cm dilated. SEE PICTURE ABOVE FOR YOUR HEALTH SCIENCE LESSON! "Effacement is the process by which the cervix prepares for delivery. After the baby has engaged in the pelvis, it gradually drops closer to the cervix; the cervix gradually softens, shortens and becomes thinner. You may hear phrases like "ripens," or "cervical thinning" which refer to effacement. Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your health care provider may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner. Dilation is the process of the cervix opening in preparation for childbirth. Dilation is measured in centimeters or, less accurately, in “fingers” during an internal (manual) pelvic exam. “Fully dilated” means you're at 10 centimeters and are ready to give birth." This means that I could go into labor, well, today or 2 weeks from now… Dr. S says he would like little Maddox to “bake” for at least 10 more days if he can in order to fully develop his lungs. Until then I am supposed to take it EASY… Not quite sure how much easier I can take it. Anyway, I WILL take it easy for the baby's sake, of course. I DID stop by Blimpies on the way home, just in case it would be my last meal!
I also had my Group B streptococcus test. Look that one up if you want to... 15-40% of healthy women test positive for Group B Strep. It just means that if one is a carrier, they will be given
antibiotics through an IV during your delivery to prevent the baby from becoming ill.
I (or Matt) will keep you all updated and in the loop!!!
